“It takes a village to raise a child,” they say. But it also takes a community to empower itself! The BSHM Department and JAHMS officers are proud to launch the “Kalamboan Alang sa Pamilya ug Ekonomiya” extension project in Barangay San Juan, Tuburan, Cebu. Led by the Head of Project, Dr. Alona M. Ordoña, and supported by the BSHM Chairman, Dr. Ronald M. Dela Cruz, and Associate Professor, Devonna Celedonio, Director of Extension Services, CTU-Tuburan Campus, this initiative aims to equip local communities with essential skills for sustainable livelihood.
The project focuses on teaching participants how to produce squash binangkal, squash muffins, and banana/kamote chips. These training sessions are designed to be informative and enjoyable, ensuring participants gain practical skills to improve their livelihoods. The program highlights the importance of community engagement and the role of academic institutions in supporting local communities.
The training sessions primarily target unemployed housewives and bystander men from Barangay San Juan and neighboring barangays. By providing these individuals with valuable skills in food production, the project aims to foster economic self-sufficiency and create sustainable income opportunities.
This initiative demonstrates the university’s commitment to community empowerment and skill development. The enthusiastic participation of local community members underscores the project’s positive impact. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, CTU-Tuburan Campus continues to address real-world challenges and advance innovative practices, aligning with WURI’s social responsibility and sustainability values. Through strategic training and utilizing local resources, the “Kalamboan Alang sa Pamilya ug Ekonomiya” project exemplifies how collaborative efforts can uplift individuals, strengthen local economies, and contribute to the broader goals of sustainable development and gender equality.
