Empowering Women Through Turmeric Processing for Sustainable Livelihoods

On November 19, 2024, the Cebu Technological University โ€“ Argao Campus, through the BS Industrial Engineering Department faculty and students, partnered with the Gutlang Womenโ€™s Association in Gutlang, Argao, Cebu, to lead a hands-on turmeric processing workshop. This initiative highlighted the importance of innovation and social responsibility, empowering local women with practical skills to establish sustainable livelihood opportunities. The event showcased the transformative potential of community-based solutions in tackling economic and social challenges.

The workshop focused on processing turmeric into marketable products such as powder, aligning with the global demand for natural health products. Held at the barangayโ€™s covered court, the event not only highlighted local agricultural resources but also empowered women with practical knowledge to boost their income. Facilitators from the university provided technical training, emphasizing collaboration and leadership among participants to create a more inclusive and resilient community.
