The Future Scientists and Technology Leaders of the Philippines (FSTLP) at Cebu Technological University – Main Campus unveiled a new initiative, EcoSpark, that aims to empower students to become advocates for climate action through writing, public speaking, and leadership opportunities on December 14.
Dr. Ramel C. Genobiagon, OIC Campus Director of CTU – Main Campus, officially approved the program, which promises to cultivate the next generation of climate change leaders and changemakers.
EcoSpark’s flagship components, EcoWrite and EcoVoice, aim to empower students through dynamic engagement. EcoWrite develops critical thinking and communication skills by guiding participants through workshops on research, storytelling, and persuasive writing, with exceptional articles featured on the EcoSpark website or in a digital magazine. EcoVoice fosters leadership by training exemplary students in public speaking, pairing them with climate experts for mentorship, and providing a platform to deliver impactful mini-lectures to peers and the community on climate issues.
Additionally, the program recognizes EcoSpark Advocates across various fields of study, including Arts and Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Computer and Information Communications Technology, Management and Entrepreneurship, and Education. This approach emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of climate solutions.
Mr. John Rowen Miano, President of FSTLP CTU-MC, highlighted the program’s transformative potential: “EcoSpark is more than a project; it’s a movement to inspire students to take ownership of climate action. Through EcoWrite and EcoVoice, we hope to nurture informed, passionate advocates ready to lead conversations in their communities.”
The initiative is backed by key university figures, including Dr. Leoncio T. Lucero, Jr., FSTLP Adviser, and Atty. Marvey J. Arnoco-Ocampo, Dean of the Student Affairs and Services Office, which ensures that EcoSpark receives the resources and guidance needed for successful implementation.
The program’s launch event featured an overview of EcoSpark’s vision, workshops for participating students, and the unveiling of its dedicated website, while encouraging Technologists to register and become part of the inspiring advocacy program.
