Empowering Educators: Research Capability Training (RCAT) for Senior High School Teachers

In a groundbreaking initiative, Cebu Technological University Malabuyoc Extension conducted a Research Capability Training Program: Gasa Para sa Senior High School Program to equip senior high school teachers with advanced research skills. This activity emphasizes the university’s commitment to fostering innovation, enhancing education quality, and promoting social responsibility by empowering educators to become agents of change.

The Research Capability Training Program provided comprehensive workshops on both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Teachers gained practical knowledge on designing, implementing, and presenting research projects, preparing them to guide students in producing impactful research. This initiative directly addresses the lack of formal training and builds the participants’ confidence in teaching research subjects, thus creating a ripple effect on the education sector.

The program was launched on July 30, 2024 and ended on December 29, 2024, ensuring participants had adequate time to absorb and apply their learnings.
Held in the Southwestern Cebu region, this initiative targeted rural areas where access to professional development opportunities is often limited. The location choice reflects the program’s focus on equity and inclusion, aiming to uplift underserved communities.Key contributors included esteemed faculty members from Cebu Technological University Malabuyoc Extension, led by the Campus Director, Dr. Felix Q. Pocong, Jr., and a dedicated team of extensionists. The project was supported by the selected private senior high schools in Southwestern Cebu, highlighting the power of collaboration in achieving educational innovation.

This activity exemplifies how universities can bridge the gap between academic innovation and societal needs. By empowering teachers, the program lays the groundwork for a new generation of research-driven students. Its immediate outcomes include improved teaching competencies, while the long-term impact resonates with WURI values of addressing real-world challenges and advancing innovative education practices.
