After the success of the AUN’s first webinar on practical ethics, AUN organized this second webinar with the theme: “How companies in ASEAN are balancing Purpose, Profit & People?” With the increasing requirements for ESG (environmental, social and governance) reporting by investors and corporates in this time of COVID-19 pandemic, the discussion was vital to learn the challenges of ASEAN companies are currently facing and how they are meeting their ethical responsibilities.

The opening remarks were initiated by the three distinguished guests of honor: Executive Director of ASEAN Business Advisory Council Mr. Gil Gonzalez, Chairman of ASEAN Human Development Organization Mr. Le Hong Phuc, and Chief Executive Office of the ASEAN Corporate Social Responsibility Network Mr. Thomas Thomas. They discussed how timely and important it is to conduct similar webinars like this as corporates should also support human development at work.

“The ethical compass of what is right and wrong should constantly guide every corporate action whether operational or strategic concerns,” Executive Director of ASEAN Business Advisory Council Mr. Gil Gonzalez commented.

Serving as speakers were: Executive President of DTGO Dr. Wit Soontaranun, Executive Director of the AirAsia Foundation Ms. Mun Ching Yap, Chief Human Resources Officer at FLOW Ms. C. Rajashree Mogan, Ethics and Compliance Manager of SNS Ms. Sharmini Lohadhasan, Chief Sustainability Officer at DBS Bank Mr. Mikkel Larsen, and Vice President of Pertamina Mr. Arya Dwi Paramita. The speakers discussed corporate responsibility and ethics, social entrepreneurship and equal opportunities, HR ethical roles, and environmental responsibilities that are all important in building their companies.

The moderator of the said webinar was the Managing Director of Bob Aubrey Associations & Strategic Advisor and the Founder of the Ethics Council & Advisory for ASEAN Region Mr. Bob Aubrey who concluded the event saying, “Companies are investing a great deal to take responsibility for that in a very important period in which this next generation that is taking over ASEAN will be different because it’s going to be actually a global leadership position that we are taking.”

“Without ethics…we won’t be able to do that particularly, given the dynamics that are here in ASEAN where you have almost a cold war kind of situation coming with many value systems being played out in Asia-Pacific as it is,” he added.

AUN Executive Director Choltis Dhirathiti and Chairman and Founder of The Foundation for International Human Rights Reporting Standards Marzuki Darusman was also present during the corporate ethics webinar. Roedel Blanche S. Suan/CAS-DevCom
