The Cebu Technological University VP Research and Development, Dr. Adrian Ybanez, completed the Advanced Biosafety Officers Training Course (ABOT 5) facilitated by the National Training Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity at the Hotel Jen, Manila City.
Dr. Ybanez was one of the two representatives from Region 7. This nationwide training course was represented by most of the regions in the Philippines.
The first semester of the course was held on August 13 – 24, 2018 while the second semester was scheduled on November 12 – 23, 2018.
Finally, the third semester was set on January 28, 2019 – February 1, 2019.
Dickman et al. (2015) defined biosafety in their article titled “Biosafety and biosecurity: a relative risk-based framework for safer, more secure, and sustainable laboratory capacity building”.
Biosafety refers to “principles, technologies, practices, and measures implemented to prevent the accidental release of or unintentional exposure to pathogenic agents” (Dickman e tal., 2015). –rmmm/ccmr
