Vice President of Research and Development Adrian Ybañez inspired aspiring professional researchers during the first electronic (e-Tech Talk) themed “My Sci-Tech Journey: Through Tick and Tin” on November 6, 2021 via zoom, which was also broadcasted on the official page of Cebu Technological University.
Dr. Ybañez highlighted on his journey as a student and as a researcher. He explained that the tick is what brought him to several places and tin is the knowledge.
He also believed that for someone to be remembered, there are two ways: (1) to plant a tree and (2) to publish.
His research works involve ticks, tick-borne diseases, and pathogens such as protozoa and parasites on animals, specifically on dogs in the Philippines. Through his findings, he believed that he could educate people on how veterinarians should properly take care of animals.
He received numerous key grants, namely: Merial Animal Health, Php 50,000 (2015); CHED DARETO grant, Php 15 million (2019); CHED IDIG, Php 12 million(2017); 3 DOST Grants, Php 1.7 million(2020); 2 CHED COVID 19 Grants, Php 7.2 million (2020) and JSPS, ¥22 million (2017).
Among all his merits, he considered the one in 2015 to be the most precious because it is the very first grant he received and the most difficult to get.
“It’s not all about the amount”, he said.
In addition, he also invited participants to view his published research papers online.
For the next sessions, he planned to invite professionals and health experts from different fields to help and encourage the students to pursue their desired careers.-ccmr/NB/Anne Valerie Heramis
