Food Innovation Laboratory Section
The Food Innovation Laboratory Section of Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Center (BENRC), is a food processing laboratory that develops, evaluates and promotes new technology, new products, efficient processing systems, technology/product commercialization and marketing strategies and to improve the quality of processed foods in terms of sensory, nutritional values and industrial uses and also provide local food processors opportunity to innovate on old products, produce new ones, or create new benefits to agricultural and fishery resources. The Food Innovation Laboratory is equipped with two built-in ovens and temper- and temperature-resistant work areas. It also has a 6-seater Sensory Evaluation Room.
The Genotoxicity and Cytotoxicity Laboratory Section of the Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Center (BENRC) is a chemical laboratory intended for research and analysis related to environmental pollution, proximate analysis and phytochemical screening. It is equipped with state of the art laboratory equipment, namely, rotary evaporator, laboratory refrigerator, gel electrophoresis, multi-plate reader, UV-Vis, laboratory oven, incubator among others. The facilities in the section are for the utilization of all faculty and staff of the university.
The Biology Laboratory Section of the Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Center (BENRC) is a biological/microbiological laboratory intended for research and analysis related to environmental pollution, shelf-life of food products and other related activities. The section also focuses on natural products research and extraction of essential plant metabolites. This section will be offering microbial and shelf-life studies services in the future. The Biology Laboratory Section has facilities like preparative HPLC, rotary evaporator, and microscopes, among others. The facilities in the section are for the utilization of all faculty and staff of the university.
The Biodiversity Museum of the Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Center (BENRC) houses a specimen collection of flora and fauna in Key Biodiversity Areas and Marine Protected Areas of the province. Other important flora and fauna samples from other parts of the country are also collected in the museum. The museum would serve as an avenue for students and communities who are interested in gaining insights of the diverse flora and fauna our country has.
