BIOTECH PROGRAMS

School on the Air

The School-on the-Air (SOA) is a radio-based community program. The program aims to disseminate knowledge on agricultural crops and livestock production. It is a one-month program in collaboration with the DA-ATI 7, LGU and the Extension Services office of CTU Barili. With the urgency to answer food insecurity, CTU Barili conducted the radio-based program in order to introduce modern techniques in agriculture. At the end of the program, beneficiaries received initial farm inputs to sustain their production.

Trainor’s Training

The five-days program is an extension of the research entitled “Identification of Indigenous Entomopathogenic Nematodes (EPNs) as Effective Biological Control Agent Against Common Insect Pests of Selected Organically-Grown Salad Vegetables in Cebu”. A series of lectures and field training was conducted to beneficiaries on basic protocols for culturing EPNs. The purpose of the program is to train participants to become trainers so that they can also guide other farmers on how to control vegetable insect pest.

Farmer’s Training in EPN

The training was conducted to farmers in the entire Cebu province. They were also given initial EPN cultures to start their own production and application. The interactive seminar was composed of lectures, trainings and field demonstration among 58 farmers in the province.
