Dr. Adrian Ybanez

Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez is the Vice-President for Research and Development, a Professor VI of the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine, and Director of the Institute for Molecular Genetics, Parasitology and Protozoan Diseases of the Cebu Technological University, Cebu City, Philippines. He has more than 14 years of teaching experience as well as administrative experience as former Veterinary Hospital Administrator for three years and Dean and University Research Director for one year from a tertiary private institution. He was also into community extension works with the Boy Scouts in the Philippines since 2004 and with the Companion Animal Practitioner's Association of the Philippines in June 2019. He also is an officer of local and national organizations, including a National Council Member of the Council on Education of the Philippine Veterinary Medical Associations. He is affiliated with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).

He obtained his Bachelor of Animal Science (Cum Laude) major in Animal Health from Visayas State College of Agriculture, Baybay, Leyte. He finished his post-graduate Diploma in Research and Development from the University of the Philippines Open University (as Dean's list). He also has a Master of Business Administration degree from the Southwestern University, PHINMA, Cebu City, Philippines, and a Master's degree in Crisis and Disaster Risk Management. Obtained his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine (Cum Laude) at Leyte State University, Visca, Baybay, Leyte. He is a licensed veterinarian with a Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences (Internal Medicine) from the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences of Gifu University and Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Japan. He is a Diplomate in the Philippine College of Veterinary Public Health and a candidate Diplomate in the Philippine College of Canine Practitioners. He is actively involved in multi-disciplinary research but with great interest in small animal medicine, parasitology, and tick-borne disease research.

His fields of research interests include Parasitology and Microbiology, Vector-borne Diseases, Veterinary Medicine and Diagnostics, Molecular Biology and Phylogenetics, Small Animal Practice, Epidemiology, and Public Health.

Niña P. Cabornay

Niña P. Cabornay is currently working as Project Technical Staff I of the research grant funded by the Commission on Higher Education Discovery-Applied Research and Extension for Trans/Inter-Disciplinary Opportunities Program (CHED-DARETO Program) entitled “Productivity and Biosecurity of small-scale poultry layer and backyard native chickens in Central Visayas, Philippines”. Her job mainly assists the program leader in the implementation of the program, carries out collection of relevant data, performs coordination of research activities and program documentation, provides technical assistance to the project, and assists in the writing of final reports. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy at Southwestern University. At present, she is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Public Health at the University of the Visayas. Her research interests includes Pharmacology, laboratory animal research, and Public Health.

Johanne P. Nuevarez

Project Technical Staff II

Johanne P. Nuevarez is currently working as Project Technical Staff II of the research grant funded by the Commission on Higher Education Discovery-Applied Research and Extension for Trans/Inter-Disciplinary Opportunities Program (CHED-DARETO Program) at Cebu Technological University entitled “Productivity and Biosecurity of small-scale poultry layer and backyard native chickens in Central Visayas, Philippines”. She finished Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Southwestern University- PHINMA in 2007 and is a part-time associate veterinarian at GPY Veterinare Animale since 2016. Her research interests includes parasitology, laboratory animals and small animal practice.

Elmie S. Delan

Science Research Assistant

Elmie S. Delan is a staff member of the Institute for Molecular Parasitology and Vector-borne Diseases. She mainly assists the Center Director in proposal writing to be submitted to funding agencies, writing scientific articles, conducting experiments, and also provides administrative assistance. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology major in Plant Biotechnology at the Visayas State University. Her research interests include biotechnology, molecular biology, tick-borne diseases, public health, and laboratory animal research.

Rhea Mae P. Jayag

Science Research Assistant

Rhea Mae P. Jayag earned her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology major in Industrial Biotechnology from the Visayas State University, where she graduated Cum Laude. Currently, she is a Science Research Assistant under the Institute for Molecular Parasitology and Vector-borne Diseases (IMPVBD). She usually writes research proposals and publishable articles, conducts laboratory experiments, and processes administrative and clerical documents. Her research interests include biotechnology, molecular biology, tick-borne diseases, public health, and laboratory animal research.
