Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of Cebu Technological University is the institutional committee responsible for reviewing, approving, and monitoring the ethical conduct of research involving animals. The committee assists students, faculty, staff, and researchers in the assessment and development of research protocols to ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards when using animals in instruction, training, and research.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The IACUC shall generally spearhead the implementation of the ACUP. Specifically, it shall:
Evaluates and approves research protocols with reference to its compliance with the adopted Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP);
Monitors and reviews implementation of the ACUP and scientific procedures in the university and its facilities;
Ensures animal welfare compliance and provides technical guidance for the accreditation of laboratory animal facility with relevant institutions;
Revokes any approval based on non-compliance to the approved programs/protocol despite repeated appeals on the violations;
Provides necessary technical recommendations and guidelines/references to ensure good welfare of animals used in the procedures; and
Conducts regular meetings and submit an annual report on the status and implementation of the ACUP to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
