Cebu Technological University-Daanbantayan Campus Tabogon Extension celebrated the grand opening of its intramurals on October 23, 2023, under the captivating theme, “Delving into the World of Symbolism: Constellating to Ignite Unity Through Sportsmanship and Socio-Cultural Competitions.”
The morning of the opening day was abuzz with excitement, as a grand parade featuring the entire CTU-Tabogon Extension community kicked off the festivities. Led by the spirited Stress Drum (DLBC) group, the parade showcased six team units, each bedecked in vibrant colors and creative banners, making it easy for onlookers to distinguish them.
The formal commencement of the event included introductory preliminaries, such as an invocation, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, ASEAN Hymn, CTU Hymn, and Tabogon Hymn. In keeping with tradition, a torch was lit, symbolizing a borderless society and the quest for peace and unity. The honor of lighting the torch was bestowed upon John Michael Dejito, a proud representative of BSHM 2B.
Ms. Judy Ilustrisimo, the PE Instructor, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, expressing her hopes for an intramural filled with camaraderie and enjoyment. The students, led by Jerlou Orillo from BSHM 1A, recited the pledge of sportsmanship, emphasizing the importance of fair play and mutual respect.
The heart-pounding journey into the world of sports began with preliminary competitions, including team yells, banner raising, cheer-dance performances, vocal solos, and vocal duets. Prior to the commencement of these events, Hon. Sheryl Elliene Monsalud, SSG Senator, outlined the criteria for evaluation, and Hon. Jewel Pareja, SSG Senator, introduced the esteemed panel of judges.
The banner raising ceremony was a sight to behold, as team leaders stirred the energy of their units by hoisting creatively designed banners. The subsequent team yells rang out, echoing the passion of each well-spirited unit, primed for the upcoming sports competitions.
The atmosphere reached a crescendo with the highly anticipated cheer-dance competition. The cheerleaders from every unit delivered awe-inspiring performances, leaving the audience in raptures. Following this, the vocal solo and vocal duet competition showcased incredible musical talents among the contenders. The winners’ names were kept under wraps, adding to the suspense, to be unveiled during the culmination of this week-long event.
The morning program obtained its successful conclusion, thanks to the capable hosting of Mr. Niel Hanley Elarcosa, the Master of Ceremony. The festivities seamlessly transitioned into the afternoon games, allowing eager team players to compete in various sports, including basketball, beach volleyball, badminton, and chess, all under the watchful eye of officiating officials.
With the successful opening program, the sports week has officially kicked off, and the organizers encouraged everyone to maintain the spirit of camaraderie throughout the event. May the games be played with passion, sportsmanship, and most importantly, with fun and unity among all participants.
