On February 20, 2024, a seminar was held at the Cebu Technological University Daanbantayan Campus-Tabogon Extension. It covered important topics composed of preventing sexual harassment, understanding legal laws, following work ethics, getting ready for internships, and having meetings with parents of students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree.
Engr. George Michael Geollina, the Chairperson for BSIE, started the event with a welcoming message. Ms. Rhona Mae I. Colegado, the Teaching Internship Coordinator, then explained the purpose of the seminar.
Dr. Rolina C. Paran, the Campus Director, spoke to the parents about the vital role they play in supporting their children. She stressed how their support not only benefits their child but also contributes to the well-being of the entire institution. Recognizing the parents’ role in their child’s academic and personal growth is crucial.
The program continued with Mr. Joseph M. Abueva, the BSHM faculty and SSG Adviser, introducing the participants and speakers. Pssg Crisanta Antopina and Pat. Jiseca F. Ruña discussed the importance of the Anti-sexual Harassment and Safe Space Act. This law aims to raise awareness about the issue and create safe environments where people feel secure and respected.
Prof. Felixberto T. Lucabon Jr., the Assistant Campus Director and Dean of Instruction of CTU-Daanbantayan Campus, explained the OJT Guidelines and Grading System. Having clear guidelines and a grading system helps students understand what is expected during their OJT, enabling them to prepare effectively. Ms. Sofia M. Montana, Administrative Officer V, emphasized the significance of workplace ethics, believing it should be an integral part of every workplace to uphold standards of integrity and respect.
Furthermore, Prof. Cherrylene G. Macachor discussed the OJT process and documentary requirements/internship plan on behalf of Dr. Tracy L. Mantos, the Director of Student Internship Aboard. Engr. Maria Theresa A. Catam-Isan, the SAO Coordinator, addressed parents’ consent/waiver.
Mr. Kevin D. Martinez, the Campus Nurse, delivered basic first aid information to ensure the safety and well-being of students during their internships. The program concluded with an open forum where participants could ask questions or share their opinions. Ms. Anna Roa L.
