“I JUANA BE A MAKER”: Laser Cutting Workshop for Female Students Conducted in Fab Lab CTU-Tuburan

As part of the university-wide celebration of the National Women’s Month 2022, Fab Lab CTU-Tuburan invited a few female students to participate in a one-day data-making and laser engraving & cutting activity on March 29, 2022, at the university shared facility.

The abovementioned activity was co-sponsored by the Gender and Development (GAD) office and the Fab Lab that aims at equipping the participants with the skill of designing 2D vector and rasterized graphics and applying the skill using the laser machine.

Due to health restrictions, the Fab Lab invited only 10 participants who are students from the Industrial Engineering, Drafting Technology and Information Technology programs of the campus.

The laser engraver/cutter is one of the latest Fab Lab prototyping machines awarded to CTU-Tuburan by the Department of Trade and Industry Region 7 Office. Now having two laser machines, the new one has a built-in camera feature that enables a what-you-see-is-what-you-get experience. The user can see in real-time and through the camera where the actual engraving and cutting will be, saving much time and making it even more precise.
