THE NEW NORMAL: FACE MASK FOR ALL

The Covid-19 global health pandemic has brought a relatively observable and inevitable changes in the normal proceedings and processes to the world. The threat of acquiring the virus has crippled everyone in their usual daily routines of being with one another closely. Because of Covid-19 people nowadays need to follow minimum health standards and protocols in order not to acquire or perhaps lessen the risk of transmitting the virus. Some of the basic minimum health protocols that everyone adheres right now is the wearing of face masks when going out in the comforts of our homes. The government constantly reminds the general public to observe these health protocols. Wearing of face masks, now eventually face shields, maintaining social and physical distancing, frequent handwashing are some of the health protocols that we observe.

With this, in answer to the needs of our fellowmen, being a naturally extending arms of the university, the Extension Services Office in collaboration with CTU Tuburan Fablab initiated an extension project of producing face masks to be distributed to those in need of such. The main beneficiaries of the program are the inmates of Cebu City Jail whose Covid-19 infections are rising abruptly in number. Thus, CTU Tuburan Extension Office outsourced funds from Amping Cebuano Project of the Cebu Technological University System to finance the needs of the PDL in Cebu City Jail. The team maximized the existing manpower and resources in the campus and also outsource the production from local dressmakers and tailors in the town. Together, we were able to produce nearly 6,000 pieces of face masks distributed to the Persons Deprived of Liberty in Cebu City Jail.

The program initiated by CTU-TC Extension Services Office together with Fablab CTU Tuburan made a great contribution in helping our fellowmen in Cebu City Jail that made each one who helped in the production more fulfilled and happier to be of help to our beneficiaries. The project was made more meaningful because many private individuals and institutions helped in funding and providing basic materials for the production of the face masks. Indeed, in times of crisis, we heal and work together as ONE. In the most pressing times of the threat of the global health pandemic, we help each other move on and extend our most generous help to those who needed it the most. The face mask production of CTU Tuburan is an evidence of our earnest desire to help and extend our helping arm being one of the academic institutions aimed at providing extension services to the community and the society in general. Truly, #weAreAllin ThisTogether.
