About Us

CTU-TC Food Innovation Center (FIC)

Cebu Technological University (CTU) Tuburan Food Innovation Center (FIC) is established to serve as a hub for innovations, and R&D for value-adding of fresh produce and development of processed foods. The introduction of new equipment like the vacuum fryer will allow the production of products using modern technology. It is envisioned that through the Center, innovative technologies, relevant support services, technical expertise, necessary infrastructures and facilities will be more accessible for micro, small and medium-sized entities (MSMEs) for a more effective technology application, deployment (transfer), and commercialization for sustained economic growth and productivity.

The facility is open to MSMEs intending to develop new products, academe and students for research and development (R&D) into product or process development, and the private sector interested in testing their product concepts or ideas. The facility can also serve as a demonstration and instructional facility for students (from the university and other Higher Education Institutes) and training of industry and government personnel.

OBJECTIVES

Enable MSMEs to increase their productivity;

Accelerate MSMEs’ competitiveness by giving them access to energy-efficient technologies and more sophisticated equipment;

Encourage the graduation of MSMEs to the next level where they could tap a better and wider market share and be integrated into the global supply chain;

Take into account convergence where government resources are pooled and integrated; and

Address the gap and bottlenecks in the value chain of priority industry clusters.

GENERAL/KEY FUNCTIONS

MSME Development (MSMED) is a key strategy to achieve the government’s goal of inclusive growth and job generation. The 2013 General Appropriations Act (GAA) has earmarked funds under the budget of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to implement its “Big Push” for MSME development. A major component of the MSMED Program is the University Shared Facility (USF) Project which aims to improve the competitiveness of MSMEs by providing them with machinery, equipment, tools, systems, skills and knowledge under a shared system.

The USF Project is being implemented nationwide with project partners termed as Cooperators. CTU Tuburan is one of the selected co-operators of USF projects in Region Cebu Province.
