Abstract
The study analyzed the causative agents as determinants that enhance or hinder the learning process from lessening difficulties in science instruction. Therefore, overall student academic achievement must be diagnosed. Several determinants were extracted from reports affecting learning in science; this study points out the intrinsic and extrinsic determinants that affect science learning among elementary students. Determinants were identified using descriptive-correlational research employing Cohen’s Kappa Index (CKI) = 0.70 among 250 student respondents. Analysis showed that four determinants are causative agents that significantly affected their learning in science: previous grades in science, parents’ education, combined monthly income, and availability of books. A supportive academic-laden environment orientation and other motivational influences can help unprepared and less knowledgeable students understand the complex nature of science subjects. Therefore, the researcher, a science educator in a higher education institution, would like to initiate linkage with the primary schools through extension projects wherein students will be mentored and capacitated to engage in a science educational set-up to improve academic learning in science.

Abstract
Bilingual instruction has gained its popularity and importance as an alternativeinstructional strategy of English as medium of instruction in a classroom setting. Bilingual instruction is oftentimes associated with the use of code-switching, which is still presumed as an asset during the giving of the lessons which includes teaching and learning interaction between the learners and the teacher. This study examines the use of code-switching and measures the effectiveness of bilingual instruction by looking into the mean gain of the preand post-test scores of the control (EMI) and experimental (Bilingual Instruction) groups employing a quasi-experimental method. Senior high school students who are non-native speakers of English were involved in this study. Two classes who were under different teaching modalities with regards to the aligned competency used during the conduct of the study; had undergone observation, and audio recording, which was transcribed to analyze why and how bilingual instruction was used. The analysis of bilingual instruction revealed that both bilingual instruction and EMI are effective tools in improving the language proficiency of the teacher and understanding of the subject Oral Communication as manifested in the mean gain. Therefore, whatever medium is used, they could be effective as long as the teacher knows what he is teaching and applies appropriate strategies in the teaching and learning process. This calls for the school administrators to encourage the use of bilingual instruction since there are students that are still left behind when it comes to communicative competence and have lower cognitive skills when English is used as medium of instruction.

Abstract
The language of advertising is powerful in persuading consumers to purchase the product. It is how the advertiser uses language to attract and grab the interest of the people. This research aims to identify and reveal the lexical features and persuasion techniques used in the selected Philippine television advertisements. This will determine how the lexical features are interrelated to the persuasion techniques that the advertiser uses in promoting their products. To obtain the data needed for these objectives, qualitative and content analysis were employed in this research method. Specifically, categorical data were used to categorize data based on each advertisement (Personal Hygiene, Medicine and Vitamins, and Food Products). Based on the findings, personal hygiene advertisements dominantly use hyperbole, while medicine and vitamin and food advertisements both dominantly use familiar language; personal hygiene advertisements belong to the competitive stage as manifested by the dominant lexical feature used which is hyperbole, while medicine and vitamin, and food belong to the pioneering stage as reflected by the dominant lexical feature used which is familiar language. Hence, the output of this study will serve as new learning instructional materials for English teachers in determining the usage of the language in an advertisement. In addition, the researchers recommend finding another framework for lexical features and persuasion techniques in advertisements and creating another material in the language in advertisements.

Abstract
The advantages of using e-retailing in promoting and distributing the products and services are so coveted that an e-retailing system to enhance the traditional way of marketing and distributing the products and services of CTU Food Innovation Centers (FIC) not only in Tuburan but across satellite campuses will be developed to enhance the current system of marketing products and services in the FIC Tuburan is word of mouth or referral system, un-systematized posting using social media, brochures, and exhibits, which results in a low generation of income and less attention to the public. This study designs and proposes a web-based e-retailing system and subsequently determines its acceptability as perceived by stakeholders and experts. This research study utilized quantitative research methods and applied design with the use of a descriptive method to determine how a web-based application can be developed for promoting a product. Improvement of the current system of delivering the products and services of the FIC to its clientele is the main objective. The survey questionnaires using 4-point Likert scale helped in assessing the perception of the intended customers of FIC towards the acceptability of the system. In light of the discoveries, it may be reasoned that FIC Web-based Retailing Systems are compliant with the basics of e-commerce, which leads to positive behavior and acceptance, the system’s design was able to overwhelmingly catch the attention of the respondents, the system’s features were satisfactorily observed; the system’s functionality was able to effectively transmit a quick and fast way of service to the respondents; the system’s aesthetics was able to create the necessary impression to its users, and the system’s security was effectively observed.

Abstract
In making important decisions, especially during times of crisis, it is likely that leadership style cannot be disregarded (Faeq & Ismael, 2022). This study aimed at determining the transformational leadership style of school administrators and its influence to the crisis management practices of CTU as a higher education institution utilizing quantitative research focusing on descriptive survey where it used a survey questionnaire in order to describe the demographic profile to the respondents, transformational leadership style of the school administrators and the effective implementation of crisis management. Respondents were chosen using the sample determination on Slovin formula. Data were collected using the adopted questionnaire from Donmez and Toker’s (2017) and Crises Management Practices adopted from The change leader, Inc. (2007). It was revealed that age and gender are diverse, probationary employees are greater in number, new and rank and file employees dominates the workforce. Furthermore, transformational leadership styles are evident among administrators, and crisis management practices are well-implemented. Gender and civil status have no direct influence to the perceived transformational leadership styles, but age, employment status, length of service and current position does. Transformational leadership significantly influence crisis management practices in CTU-Tuburan. It can be concluded that sound decision can be made when leaders possess transformational leadership style. Hence, this calls for sustainability and consistency from the top management.

Abstract
This study assumes that former President Rodrigo Duterte and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. used different types of deixis in their first State of the Nation Address (SONAs). Supporting this assumption is the theory of Deictic Expressions by Stephen Levinson. This study is descriptive qualitative. Findings revealed that former President Duterte and President Marcos Jr. used different types of deixis in their speeches. The most dominant type of deixis used by former President Duterte is personal deixis, which obtained the highest frequency, particularly the pronoun “I”. In contrast, the most prevalent deixis used by President Marcos is “personal deixis”, particularly the pronoun “we”. It is concluded that personal deixis was the most dominant type of deixis among the five types used by the two speakers in their speeches. Future researchers are encouraged to conduct a future study that will focus on the usage of deixis in books or speeches.

Abstract
This research assesses the Junior High School students’ financial literacy and its impact on their entrepreneurial behavior at Moalboal National High School for the school year 2022 – 2023 based on the TLE Management Plan. The research utilized a descriptive method of research to accurately and systematically describe the profile, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial behavior of the respondents who were chosen randomly using the fishbowl technique. Furthermore, a correlational study is also employed to determine the significant relationship between respondents’ financial literacy and entrepreneurial behavior. This study utilizes a standardized survey questionnaire for financial literacy retrieved from Jorgensen (2007) while for entrepreneurial behavior patterned from Abun, Foronda, Agoot, Belandres, and Magallanez (2018). It was revealed that respondents’ age range from 12 to 17, where there are a greater number of women than men, the majority of them are full-time students, very few are engaged to work, and a majority of their family income is below 20,000.00php; financial knowledge, attitude, and behavior are moderately average, entrepreneurial behavior is high or more than the average but not very high; demographic profile has significant relationship with financial literacy; demographic profile is not significant to their entrepreneurial behavior; financial knowledge and behavior do not have significant relationship with entrepreneurial behavior, but financial literacy does. It can be concluded that financial literacy as to financial attitude is a determinant of entrepreneurial behavior, presumably so as with financial knowledge and behavior if they were only fully developed. It is recommended to integrate financial literacy and entrepreneurial behavior extensively in the curriculum of secondary education.

Abstract
This study examined the L1’s phonological influences on segmental and suprasegmental traits in the selected speech of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte using a descriptive qualitative research approach, using Bautista and Gonzales (2006) framework on the phonological features of Philippine English. It was revealed that the speaker rarely used the unaccented schwa; the speaker is devoid of stop aspirations and has realized cluster simplification at the final position and lack of aspiration; the speaker makes a series of replacements where he substitutes “[a] for [æ], [כ [for [o], [ɪ] for [i], and [ε] for [e].” Moreover, the speaker made a series of substitution where the speaker realizes “[s] for [z], [ſ] for [ʒ], [t] for [θ], [d] for [ð], [p] for [f], and [b] for [v],” although “[p] for [f] and [b] for [v]” were rarely committed. Moreover, the speaker follows a syllable-timed rhythm rather than a stress-timed rhythm which pertains that the speaker’s regular American English accent results in fewer erroneous word utterances and adjusts variations in accent location. The mother tongue (L1) influences the second language (L2) in creating speech sounds. The phonologically influenced segmental and suprasegmental features show that the speaker strongly prefers his mother tongue but it is not an indication that the Philippine variation is incorrect but rather a variant of English language which supports the concept of World Englishes that recognizes the variety of English language which is brought and influenced by the first or native language of the speaker.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the condition of the electrical wiring system at Cebu Technological University (CTU) during the fiscal year 2019-2020, serving as the basis for proposing a cost-effective electrical wiring system. The research was conducted specifically at CTU-Tuburan Campus (CTU-TC), utilizing the energy audit and descriptive research methods. To gather the necessary data for analysis, an inventory of electrical loads, electrical wirings, and circuit breakers was conducted. Electrical engineering computations were performed to calculate relevant data related to capacity, cost savings, and safety during the inventory process. The findings revealed that the existing electrical conductors and circuit breakers were inadequate to handle the total load of 483.285 kilowatts. Consequently, it was concluded that the current electrical wiring system at CTU-Tuburan is neither cost-effective nor safe, and it lacks the capacity to accommodate the existing electrical loads. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to implement a proposed electrical wiring system alongside a regular maintenance program. The proposed electrical wiring system aims to address the identified shortcomings by ensuring cost-effectiveness, safety, and improved capacity to handle the electrical loads. The regular maintenance program will help maintain the system’s functionality and longevity, ensuring its sustained effectiveness. Implementing these recommendations will result in an optimized electrical infrastructure for CTU-Tuburan, supporting the efficient and safe operation of its electrical systems.

Abstract
Knowledge of spelling development concerning phonology, orthography, and morphology and the non-linguistic factors affecting spelling execution have significant instructional and theoretical implications. Few studies have been conducted on Binisayang-Sinugboanon regarding spelling and literacy development and primary pupils simultaneously learning Filipino and English languages, which vary in the phonological, orthographical, and morphological systems. This study was conducted to provide an in-depth understanding of the triple word-form theory and cross-linguistic interference by explicitly analyzing the linguistic features and spelling error categories in the expository paragraphs in the Binisayang-Sinugboanon, Filipino, and English of the multilingual fourth-grade spellers. Types of spelling errors were identified and interpreted using the POMAS Coding System and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), in which the Binisayang-Sinugboanon got more errors in orthographical and morphological features among the three codes, which implies that multilingual participants find their mother tongue very complex in terms of their spelling structures. All three codes were high on orthographically-based errors with many occurrences in capitalization and unusual vowel patterns in English and vowel errors for both Binisayang-Sinugboanon and Filipino. Loanword fusion, a newly discovered error feature, was high in both local codes- proving the effect of multilingualism on spelling. The results of this research have transparent instructional implications for teaching spelling and theoretical implications for multilingualism concerning literacy development. The study may pave the way to research-based instructional intervention, emphasizing the orthographical-phonological-morphological interrelatedness, which may vary pedagogically considering their effects on multilingual learners.

Abstract
In 2020, COVID-19 forced several communities to isolate, and radio stations stepped up as leaders in communication and media during the pandemic, especially in rural communities where internet access is lacking. This study examines the vital role for disseminating information among urban and rural communities and improving services for clients who do not have access to the internet or television news updates. Specifically, this study analyses the demographics of the listeners of Bulawanong Tinubdan (BT) Radio 98.1 FM, a radio station of the Cebu Technological University-Tuburan campus and an affiliate of the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS), a government-owned network. It delves into the community perspective of the station’s programs, as BT Radio 98.1 FM endeavors to be an avenue for communication as well as teaching-learning platform during unexpected lifestyle changes like the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, this study seeks to ascertain how listeners perceive the role of BT Radio programs in assisting the community in becoming more connected despite these constraints. The results show that the station captures the majority of the younger audiences in the community, while also highlighting how a campus-based FM radio station promotes community awareness across different age groups. This strengthens the position of the radio program as a learning environment that is widely accessible and that promotes information in the community.

Abstract
Calcium, obtained from various sources, is essential to fulfil the dietary requirements of birds. Oyster shells are excellent sources of calcium and are widely used in bird diets. Calcium is a critical factor in eggshell deterioration, affecting its absorption. Consequently, this study aimed to determine the combined effects of powdered oyster shell and lemongrass on the growth, development, and egg quality of birds, specifically using 5, 10, and 15 grams of oyster shell powder as a calcium source. A completely randomised design was used to assess the efficacy of varying amounts of powdered oyster shell. Results revealed that there was no significant change in growth development at different inclusion levels of oyster shell powder and lemongrass solution. However, egg quality exhibited a significant variance at different inclusion levels of oyster shell powder. Similarly, lemongrass solution as a supplement for laying quails demonstrated a significant difference. Therefore, supplementing the calcium source with a blend of 15 g of oyster shell powder and 300 ml lemongrass solution enhanced egg performance and eggshell quality of laying quail by 5%.

Abstract
Early diagnosis of prevailing factors that either promote or impede learning is necessary in order to minimize problems in chemistry instruction and overall student performance. Extracted from reports on various factors affecting the teaching and learning of Chemistry, this study draws out determinants that affect first year university students’ achievement in chemistry courses. Using descriptivecorrelational research, university students (n= 253) were surveyed using a checklist instrument (CKI = 0.70) to determine the factors that influenced their Chemistry learning. Multiple regression analysis revealed five determinants that significantly correlated with their achievement in this course namely, high school chemistry grade, parents’ educational attainment, books, type of school enrolled, and fire extinguishers. A supportive learning environment along with other motivational factors can help underprepared students to be academically successful even in the most challenging course like Chemistry.

Abstract
Content, pedagogy, and technology knowledge are central to effective teaching. Moreover, the interaction and integration of these knowledge bases challenge teachers, especially non-teacher education graduates including diploma professional education (DPE) graduates. Utilising adapted instruments, this study investigated the teaching competence of biology teachers who are DPE graduates, specifically their Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Biology teaching competence to design a teacher professional development (TPD) programme. Most teachers were BS Nursing graduates with professional teaching licenses and teaching experience ranging from 3 to 10 years. Also, most teachers received between one to five TPDs focused on biology, pedagogy, and technology. Among the TPACK components, the teachers perceived that they were least competent in pedagogical knowledge (PK) and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Although the teachers agreed on their perceived overall TPACK competence, there is still an avenue to strengthen their TPACK. Teachers also believed that they were least competent in biological cellular processes. Need-based teacher professional development programmes are recommended to enhance Biology teachers’ TPACK, and ultimately, biology education.

Abstract
This project upgraded the temperature sensor of a social distancing gate by using MLX90614-DCI for automatic body temperature monitoring. The Arduino UNO accepts and manages the sensor’s instructions and monitors social distance and temperature. The whole system was created using the IDE environment with C++. The infrared distance sensor alerts the oncoming person at the gate’s entrance. With one meter separating the two people, the ultrasonic sensor monitors the person entering the gate. When social distance is not maintained, the built-in speaker sounds an alarm. The infrared proximity sensor, on the other hand, recognizes the individual approaching the gate. The body temperature of person entering the gate is measured using an infrared thermometer sensor and expressed in degrees Celsius. The IR temperature sensor measures the person’s temperature, which is then displayed on the LCD panel. Comparison between the readings of the old and new sensors was taken and analyzed using descriptive statistics and dependent samples t-test. Results show a significant difference in the temperature readings between the old and new thermometer sensors.

Abstract
The role and involvement of the parents towards their children’s education are indispensable, especially in the formative years. Nowadays, these crucial roles and involvement have been confronted by the uprising economic constraints in the Philippines, especially in the rural areas. Furthermore, empirical literature reported decreasing parental involvement. Hence, the study aims to explore parent’s role, involvement, and challenges in the education of their children in the formative years. This study used a qualitative method of research employing a phenomenological method of investigation to gather necessary data through an interview guide from 8 informants who were purposively chosen. Three major themes were elicited: Parents’ role as Replica, Guide, and Provider; Limited involvement due to educational attainment, poverty, and livelihood; and Parents’ involvement as an immense factor in children’s success, which implies that parents were fully aware of their respective roles and that poverty, educational attainment, and their livelihood are the key factors affecting their roles. It was further revealed that despite financial challenges, informants were still having a positive attitude towards the value of education in the success of their children. It is concluded that informants are well aware of their respective roles and involvement in the education of their parents leading them to have a positive attitude on the value of education for their children. Abstract
The study aimed to find out the reading comprehension of the Grade 12 EFL students of Rittiyawannalai School under the international program of Bangkok Thailand and to quantify its relationship to different factors such as availability of reading materials, reading habits, family economic status, parent’s educational attainment, after school tutoring, teacher’s experience and qualification, grammar and vocabulary knowledge, classroom management and motivation. The design used was quantitative using a semi-structured questionnaire to elicit the demographic data and quantifiable elements and analyzed using multi-regression analysis through SPSS. Generally, it was concluded that family economic status (p-value=0.007), after-school tutoring (p-value=0.028), qualification of teachers (p-value=.000), vocabulary knowledge (p-value=0.003), and grammar (p-value=.000) are the dominant factors to the improvement of reading comprehension of the students. On the contrary, other factors obtained more than the level of significance at .05 which made them not significant to student respondents’ reading comprehension performance. This paper recommends exploring more on other factors that would significantly impact reading comprehension performance to continually improve the reading experience of the learners.

Abstract
Sexism in social media sites has rarely been looked into and has been scarcely seen as a crucial subject to research studies, which is alarming to the desire to achieve an equal and just society. This study focused on the sexist rhetoric used in the commentaries on 2022 Presidentiable Leni Robredo to reveal how prevalent and existing sexism in the Philippines through language is. Comments are gathered from Facebook posts pertaining to Atty. Leni Robredo. The study employed a qualitative-descriptive research design, specifically content analysis, to analyze sexist words and phrases. The weight and capability of each word’s sexism were compared when it is used to insult, degrade, and malign a woman to determine its level of sexism. The study revealed that deep-rooted gender biases and sexism through language are still highly functioning in society, as is observed and experienced online. Hostile sexism is the most pervasive level of sexism and hence contributes to widespread sexism in the country and is more commonly done by the majority of males than females. It is recommended that academe should promote unbiased gender language by making every term and phrase gender inclusive as an introduction lesson/subject) to avoid sexism.

Abstract
This study assessed the effectiveness of the Supplementary Intervention Material in English Grammar developed by the researcher. The material was tried out to the BA English Language and BA Literature students of CTU-Tuburan Campus to determine its effectiveness. After using the material, a summative test was administered to determine their grammatical competence. Questionnaires were also accomplished by the students to gain an in-depth understanding of their attitude towards the use of the material. The result of the summative test revealed that the students’ grammatical competence was fairly competent. They have developed their grammatical competence after using the material, from being low-performing to fairly competent. However, it is highly reasonable to state that their grammar skills need to be further improved to particularly support their writing skill. They also showed a very positive attitude towards the material and found it very useful and effective. Thus, the Supplementary Intervention Material in English Grammar was recommended for use in the grammar intervention program of the BAEL and BAL students.

Abstract
This study aimed to identify the phonological processes used by Cebuano children at free play. There were 15 children from different age groups who were studied: first age group (1.0 – 1.6 years old); second age group (1.7 – 4.0 years old); and third age group (4.1 – 7.0 years old). The participants were grouped according to the phonological stages of Ingram and David (1989). The first age group is the first 50-word phonology stage; the second age group is the phonology of single morphemes stage; and the third age group is the completion of the phonemic inventory stage. The child-adult interactions were recorded during the child’s free play at home. The children’s utterances were then transcribed. The result showed different phonological processes that dominated in the utterances of children in each age group. The final consonant deletion was the most occurring process in the first age group; stopping came out to be the dominant process in the second age group; gliding of liquids was prevalent in the third age group. This study concluded that children’s versions of adult language words are indeed phonologically simpler. In the process of developing speech, children often use phonological deviations in their speech production.

Abstract
Cebu Technological University (CTU), with more than ten external and satellite campuses, has taken its outstanding share in alleviating the threats posed by mishandling solid wastes, including e-waste. Across the province of Cebu, the CTU administration has stretched out the responsible solid waste segregation and disposal campaign. It has taken steps toward helping the community become aware of sound solid waste management. However, no measures have been taken to properly handle unusable compact discs (i.e., CDs, DVDs), chargers, and other electrical and electronic wastes. Hence, there is a need to start seriously considering the proper forecasting and handling of these potentially harmful wastes by gathering enough evidence to support establishing an E-waste Management Center. This study aimed to design and test a system that will store Electrical and Electronic Equipment information in a database upon acquisition for proper tracking and ewaste volume forecasting. It provided an estimate for Recycling, Reusing, and Reducing opportunities. In developing the software, the researchers used the Agile Model, which consists of the following phases such asplanning, analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, tracking, and monitoring. The software application features included Supply Office Inventory, Maintenance Inventory, E-waste Inventory, Adding New Item to Inventory, Update Information, and Update Status from Inventory, Update Status from Maintenance, Update Status from E-waste, and Report Generation Module.Updating the status for Inventory and Maintenance means tagging the equipment as working, for repair, or salvage. Updating the equipment status from e-waste means tagging it for recycling, reuse, or salvage. The software application testing was done and resulted in the successful implementation of the needed features and functionalities.

Abstract
The end-of-term ratings are one of the most crucial components of improving educational institutions’ ability to assess teachers’ performance. The paper-based evaluation system for teachers at Cebu Technological University’s Tuburan Campus is time-consuming and laborious. During the flexible learning, the school uses Google Forms to create surveys to rate the teachers which also has shortcomings since Google Forms has limited functions. To solve these issues, the proponents created a web-based evaluation system that makes it simple for students to rate their professors and generates evaluation reports at ease. Additionally, the system gives the system administrator the ability to control colleges, users, and evaluations. It will save time and manpower because the results are created automatically. The system was developed using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, PHP, and MySQL while adhering to the Agile Model of the Software Development Life Cycle. The proponents allowed the SAST Coordinator and students to test the system and evaluate each module during the usability testing. Throughout unit testing, integration testing, and system/alpha testing, the system was successful and performed as planned. Enhancements to the system’s features is highly recommended in order to augment the system’s functionality including further study on the system’s technology acceptance.

Abstract
Water stress in plants due to the effects of climate change resulted in reduced growth and yield of coffee in the tropics. Efficient use of water through the use of SMART irrigation systems available provides a promising solution to address such a problem. Thus, a study utilizing a combined climate- based and soil moisture SMART irrigation system has been conducted to assess its effects on the growth of Robusta coffee seedlings compared to practiced manual irrigation. The experimental design utilized a Complete Block Design (CBD) approach. Additionally, water consumption was measured to determine any significant differences. Over the course of the two-month experiment, 20 replications per treatment, it was observed that coffee seedlings subjected to the automated irrigation system (T1) exhibited significant improvements in both plant height and number of leaves, with growth rates of 72.56% and 65.29%, respectively, compared to manually irrigated plants (T0). Although the water savings achieved under the automated system were not statistically significant, there was an 18.95% reduction in water consumption. These findings highlight the potential benefits of automating irrigation systems using an IoT approach, specifically in terms of enhancing coffee seedling productivity. By utilizing real-time data from sensors, the SMART irrigation system effectively optimized water usage and resulted in improved growth and yield. This research underscores the importance of implementing such technological advancements to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on coffee cultivation in tropical regions.

Abstract
Essential oils of sugar apple and lemongrass are highly insect repellent ingredients due to their relatively low toxicity, comparable efficacy, and customer approval. Experimental research assessed the larvicidal ability of solvent-free combined crude extract of lemongrass and sugar apple under varied time intervals (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes and 20 minutes). Findings showed that commercial spray is more effective against mosquito larvae versus the combined crude extract of lemongrass and sugar apple. However, combined lemongrass and sugar apple extract divulged potential larvicidal activity against dengue-causing mosquito vectors and need to be reformulated for greater concentrations to equate commercial mosquito spray effectiveness.

Abstract
Spanish colonialism has led to raising a significant issue of how much influence Filipino millennials have felt from it until today, particularly on our language, culture, and identity. Several research undertakings have been conducted, but there was rare to none that is conducted specifically for the prevalence of Spanish Colonialism through a linguistic perspective in the Visayan Region, which becomes the drive of the conduct of this research. This paper aimed to explore the prevalence of Spanish influence through linguistic perspective among Visayan college freshmen. The study used qualitative design employing the interpretative phenological method of investigation to offer insights into how informants make sense of a given situation. Seven (7) informants were purposively and conveniently selected for an in-depth interview to elicit the necessary information. The qualitative data gathered from the interviews were transcribed and encoded using a word document to tabulate and generate codes with their emerging themes. The study revealed seven themes which are: Religious Practice and Language Use; Cultural Transmission; Familiarity with the Spanish Language; Variation of Affective Impressions; Comfortability of Using the Language and Preference of Learning the Native Visayan Language; Assimilation of Spanish Mentality and its Influences to our Language, Culture and Identity; and Confirmation of Spanish influence. It was concluded then that Spanish Colonialism is still prevalent today from a sociolinguistic perspective, in other words, the confirmation of the relationship between language and culture. The intertwined relationship between these two makes the Spanish colonization very alive and prevalent up until today, which was keenly used by the colonizer to maintain their holds on the colonized. The results of this study could generate efforts to revive our language and culture because doing so is tantamount to reviving our own identity as Visayan Filipino. However, we will still continue to assimilate or conform to what we are used to speaking. Certainly, the beauty with the effort of preservation will enrich our language and culture as the trend of assimilating the Spanish one goes on.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the Biometric Attendance System (BAS) of Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus during the calendar year 2018 as basis for a proposed system improvement. This study used the quantitative research employing descriptive method that assessed the performance of the Biometric Attendance System as to timeliness, accuracy, graphical user-interface and system maintenance. The study was conducted at Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus, Tuburan, Cebu. There were 96 teaching staff and 48 non-teaching personnel who were chosen randomly to evaluate the performance of the Biometric Attendance System. Weighted mean was used to analyze and interpret the data. This study revealed the following findings: the BAS has six (6) features which are touch-screen user interface (TUI), system setup, administrators, finger registration, clock configuration and DTR pint menu. The overall performance of the biometric system was very satisfactory in terms of timeliness, accuracy, and graphical-user interface. Hence, biometric system has always ensured employees’ timeliness, provided accurate employee attendance record, and accommodated well the employees in their daily use of the biometric. Thus, it utilized a corrective form of maintenance only for emergency cases or is done after the problem occurred such as system reboot for downtime related issues and database backup. Lastly, “employees forget to log in/out” is found out to be the number one (1) problem in the daily use of biometric system. Formulation of a proposed system improvement on the lapses of the performance of the current biometric attendance system is the output of this study.

Abstract
Eggplant is one of the high-value vegetable crops in the country that has been studied for growth and yield improvement due to its nutritional and medicinal benefits to the consumer. Thus, a study was conducted utilizing the Sargassum polycystum seaweed extract as foliar fertilizer for eggplants to assess its growth and yield responses. The study was arranged in a randomized complete block design. Treatments were control (no foliar application of seaweed extract), recommended commercial fertilizer (10 g of 14-14-14), 0.5% v/v, 1.0% v/v, and 1.5% v/v seaweed extract in water. Results show improvement in eggplant growth and yield parameters applied with seaweed extract (P < 0.05). Application of 1.0% v/v seaweed extract resulted in the highest plant height (44.00 ± 7.28 cm) and root length (21.61 ± 4.83 cm) for eggplant, comparable to all plants applied with commercial fertilizer (39.06 ± 10.32 cm, 20.28 ± 3.64 cm), 0.5% v/v (42.33 ± 11.11 cm, 20.78 ± 3.84 cm) and 1.5% v/v (42.06 ± 10.56 cm, 20.11 ± 4.50 cm) of seaweed extract, respectively. A similar result was observed for leaf number and leaf width. Moreover, 1.0% v/v of seaweed extract application got the highest number of fruits per plant (3.00 ± 0.49), fruit length (16.00 ± 0.77 cm), fruit circumference (10.92 ± 0.67 cm), and fruit weight (97.22 ± 37.27 g). Hence, the foliar application of 1.0% v/v seaweed extract is recommended for more profitable and sustainable eggplant production.

Abstract
Andrographis paniculata (Burm.F.) Wall ex. Nees is an important medicinal plant in ASEAN countries that drives a high demand in the worldwide medicinal plant trade due to its andrographolide content. To find out optimum lighting and culture conditions in vitro, seed cultures were grown on photoautotrophic (sucrose- free) and photomixotrophic (3% sucrose) media. Blue and red monochromatic LED lights were used at an irradiance intensity of 40 µmol m-2 s-1 for 20 days as an energy source. Photosynthetic responses were measured in terms of chlorophyll content and net photosynthetic rate. Morphological responses were measured in terms of leaf and internode count, shoot length, number of roots, root length, fresh weight, and dry weight. Results were analyzed using SPSS 11.5 software. Gas chromatography results show that net photosynthetic rate was higher under blue light while red light resulted in taller plants. Root count and root length were higher under red light by 11% and 9.7% respectively. Sucrose reduced the net photosynthetic rate under both light spectra. Furthermore, plants under photoautotrophic conditions grew taller shoots and higher fresh weight. However, photomixotrophic blue light plants showed the highest dry matter content. Spectrum- wise, red light plants have a higher dry weight but when sucrose was involved in the growing medium, blue light plants outweighed it by as much as 7.91%. This suggested hyperhydric tissues in other cultures. Photosynthesis is constrained often by the low concentration of CO2 in photomixotrophic cultures as sucrose has been observed to act as an osmotic agent in in vitro culture systems.

Distinct to today’s society is rapid change, exemplified in the swift demands that confront professionals and working life. As this ripple to and challenges the educational set up to mold competent individuals, changes occur as the education paradigm shifts. One such change is Constructivism which asserts learning to be an active process where learners actively build on their experiences and knowledge. Students’ perceptions of the classroom learning environment are significant and should be of interest to teachers. The study employed a Constructivist Learning Environment Survey which was responded by163 first-year college students. It was intended to assess how students perceive their Science class as taught using the Constructivist approach. It utilized the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software to analyze data. Findings revealed that students perceived their Science class as “often” taught using Constructivism. Likewise, of the five Constructivist dimensions identified and utilized for this study, four dimensions were regarded as “often” perceived by the students in their science class, the highest often perceived dimension being Student Negotiation. Contrastingly, the only dimension perceived “seldom” by the students and scored the lowest is Shared Control. Thus, it resulted that there is no relationship between the teacher’s teaching experience and the teacher’s use of constructivist practices.

Abstract
Research Aims: The present study aims to document perceptions and identify the challenges on the participation and role of technology business incubators (TBIs) of select academic institutions in Visayas, Philippines. Design/methodology/approach: It is quantitative-qualitative research, which utilized survey questionnaires and focus group discussion of twenty-five (25) key informants (KIs) from nine higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Visayas. KIs include key officials and faculty who handled research, technology transfer, business incubation, intellectual property, and/or technology licensing functions in their respective HEIs. Research Findings: All KIs were from state universities or colleges, and most KIs were female (64%), married (60%), and holders of a doctorate degree (72%). Results showed that most KIs had good knowledge of TBI operations and intellectual property rights, but acknowledged the need for developing capacities and facilities for the TBI operations. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study identified key challenges and concerns of the HEIs that can affect the implementation and operations of the TBI program in the Philippines which include the training needs of the faculty, lack of manpower and budget, and the sustainability of the facility/operation. The HEIs also need support from government agencies and non-government organizations. Managerial Implication in the South East Asian context: TBI can help in the improvement of the country’s innovation index, technopreneurship, and value creation. Philippine HEIs should consider the cost and sustainability of setting up TBIs as well as how they benchmark their activities against other Southeast Asian countries. Research limitation & implications: Although the sample appears to be limited, data was collected from key HEI managers and decision-makers. Therefore, this study can still provide insights for current and prospective TBIs to help address common concerns and formulate policies and strategies for the operations and sustainability of the program in their respective HEIs.

Abstract
This study examined the stress encountered and stress-coping skill used by the school principals, enabling the development of an improvement program for workrelated outcomes in educational contexts. An adapted survey questionnaire was distributed to school principals and teachers-in-charge of public schools in the Asturias district of the Cebu division in the Philippines. The first part of the survey questionnaire collected personal and professional details from school principals, while the second assessed their performance. Five categories of stressors were identified: administrative responsibilities, administrative constraints, interpersonal relationships, intrapersonal conflicts, and employers’ expectations. The respondents’ stress-coping strategies were then analyzed for their suitability and effectiveness in stress management. The data were analyzed using frequency, simple percentages, weighted means, and correlation coefficients, which revealed the extent of the stress they encountered from each of the five categories of stressors as well as the stresscoping strategies preferred by the school principal and observed by other teachers. Based on the findings, it is recommended that an improvement program be developed for work-related outcomes in educational contexts, focusing on school principals and stress management, which may be referred to as the Dynamic Administrative Performance Network.

Abstract
Waste is an unavoidable by product of human activities. Economic development, urbanization and improving living standards in cities have led to an increase in the quantity and complexity of generated wastes. There is a growing need to evaluate whether lessons learned in the classroom are practiced at home. In connection, ecological waste management should be integrated in educational instruction. With that, the researcher determined the level of ecological waste management practices among Second Year Bachelor of Elementary Education(BSED) students of the Cebu Technological University – Tuburan Campus during Summer class of Academic Year 2016 – 2017, and its relationship with their performance in Ecology subject. To achieve the purpose of this investigation, the researcher utilized a quantitative, non-experimental approach specifically the descriptive – correlational survey method with adapted questionnaire; the weighted mean was utilized to assess the ecological solid waste management while Chi Square Test was used to test the association between the performance of the respondents and their practices on solid waste management. Findings revealed that the respondents “sometimes” performed what they have learned. Results showed that there is a highly significant association between the performance of students and their ecological solid waste management practices. Ten (10) least performed practices were identified and became the basis for creating IEC materials. The study concluded that the higher the students’ grades in the Ecology subject, the more likely they will practice what they have learned. Information Education Campaign materials are, therefore recommended to further improve their level of practices.
