Vice President for Production, Extension & Business Affairs

Dr. Edgar U. Tibay

EDGAR U. TIBAY, Ph.D.

Dr. Edgar U. Tibay is the the director of Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers.

His academic pursuits granted him Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management (Ph.D.-TM) after having gone through challenges in his early years at Inayawan Elementary School, University of the Visayas (UV)- Secondary Department and University of Cebu (UC) where he finished Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1986. He was a working scholar, dynamic student leader, a UC defender and   a consistent dean’s lister.

Dr. Tibay’s early employment began in high school as he decided to be an apprentice in a machine shop—a stint that influenced much of his interest in the field of mechanical engineering which eventually turns   into a   vocation.

After finishing college, one of his goals was brought to fruition—a job in a multi-national beverage manufacturing firm. In subsequent endeavors, he was   exposed to industries and intensively engaged in export-oriented entrepreneurial production of fashion accessories in the late 90’s.

The succeeding years marked the beginning of his teaching career in private colleges and universities, including the graduate school. From there he also assumed an industrial linkage development position and administrative functions.

He joined Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST) in 1998 and taught mechanical engineering and other minor subjects in the allied engineering degrees. Similarly, he was given designations as chairman of the ME Department and OJT chairman in the College of Engineering. After CSCST’s conversion to CTU, he had been co-chair of the Pollution Control Office (PCO) which is accredited by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 7.

More to his responsibilities was a matter of commensurate response in 2010   as he was chosen by Temasek Foundation and CHED to participate in the Specialist Teachers Training in Mechatronics at Nanyang Polytechnic University in Singapore.

Since then he has partnered with firms for special consultancy and design. Frequent invitations from other universities have also been made for Dr. Tibay to be one of the panel members in the graduate school’s  thesis/dissertation hearings.
